„…unfit for life in the lowlands"
Th. Mann

In this exhibition, two artistic positions come together that move away from the familiar forms of the self. Petra von Kazinyan works in her cloud paintings with states of being in which contour and self-image dissipate and morph into an open field that rejects any fixed figure

Teresa Grandits develops sculptures and body forms in which the human shell dissolves, hardens, condenses or disintegrates, as if something is created in this process that is no longer bound to the habits of the person. Both positions touch on the point at which identity becomes detached and takes on a different structure.

The title comes from Thomas Mann's “Magic Mountain” and marks the area in which perception and self-image shift. The works by Kazinyan and Grandits move in this zone, far from the flatland that promises stability and at the same time dampens any transformation.
